The importance of good footwear to explore the Island

Turisme Petit is a blog about family tourism passionate about nature and hiking, and through our website we seek to share our experiences and outdoor adventures with other families, friends and all those who enjoy nature as much as we do.

Since we started this project 14 years ago, our idea has been to offer other families hiking routes, outdoor activities and practical advice to enjoy nature in an accessible and safe way, always with a family focus. Being from Mallorca, we have specialized in excursions around the Island.

Through our publications on the web and social networks, we show the most accessible routes to do with children in Mallorca and we give historical data on the environment and we also make recommendations on how to equip yourself so that the experience is as comfortable and safe as possible. We always seek to combine fun and learning with direct contact with the natural environment.

The importance of wearing appropriate footwear, especially if we go with children

We know that when it comes to hiking or any outdoor activity, the right footwear makes a big difference, both for adults and children. That’s why, since we discovered the Bestard brand, we’ve noticed a big difference. In particular, we use two types of footwear depending on the type of excursion we are going to do:

The Travessa boots, with a classic-sporty design and Vibram sole, are perfect for longer or more demanding routes. They are comfortable and offer great support, which is essential when we walk on uneven or mountainous terrain, many routes in the Serra de Tramuntana are like this, for example. Their waterproofing is another great advantage, as it allows us to enjoy excursions even when the weather is not good or we have to go through mud or wet areas. Some examples might be the Salt des Freu near Fornalutx or the Pedre en Sec route along the Barranc de Biniaraix.

On the other hand, the Speedwave shoes are lighter and more flexible, making them perfect for shorter outings or paths without many uneven ground, the advantage being that they are lighter footwear. Suitable examples might be the circular route around the Cúber Reservoir in Escorca or the Camí de Sa Volta des General from Banyalbufar.
